I’m not the target audience, I’m a 33 year old man, and I feel absolutely *sniped* right now. Like not even regular sniped, *through the heart* sniped.
Who knows…. Maybe with long-enough life experience, we all converge on the same key nodes of experience. Or at least if we’re willing to try all life has to offer.
“pick me” is used as a slur for autistic girls who would rather not deal with female social rules, and unfortunately it’s applied regardless of whether someone is constantly bragging
Jesus Christ. Do y’all ever stop meta living and just live? We get it, you grew up and learned not to be so pretentious all the goddamn time. Gen X looks at you all and wonders how far up your own asses you can get. All the way and then some apparently. Keep ruminating and I’m sure you’ll figure it out.
Just never seen you write about anything other than yourself. This post is you writing about yourself about how you write about yourself. Instead of turtles, it’s just you all the way down. Live in the now, turn your gaze outward. If you have a unique pov prove it. We can’t disagree with any of your premises because it’s your internal dialogue. As they say in the music biz, quit jacking off in the track.
As another comment said, I’m a man so I’m not the target here, but a lot of that hit close to home and will be a useful tool in the future for understanding myself and others.
It actually cracked my armor and made myself feel unsure for the first time in a year.
That said, I do take some grievances with the things women say about each other behind their backs, and the sometimes-claimed “women’s natural, and therefore justified, need to gossip.”
But this isn’t the space, so I’ll leave it at saying I talk a lot of shit myself but some stuff related to social awkwardness and unintentional bad social habits shouldn’t be a cause for bullying, and it gives me the “ick” when I hear girls do it in my presence. Fortunately as a man, it’s easy for me to address such behaviors in men and women in a non-scolding way :)
Not doing the reputation destruction thing and having principles actually does make you a better person.
Ironically, that part of this essay feels a lot like you're just tired of paying the price for that and ready to submit under the tyranny of the majority.
Which is fine - it's your right to worry about your own well-being too, but you should be honest with yourself about that.

I'm 69 next month. I wonder how close I am to the "audience target?"

I did not ask to be personally attacked by a substack post today lmao. This describes my teen experience so well, bravo.
*Teen* experience? ::duck::
How did you get so far into my head? Eerie. Great piece.
You hit me. I’m hurt. I’m mortified. I’m gonna get better.
Absolutely loved the voiceover reading! Was like we were drinking tea and chatting together.
So happy you listened!

Finally subscribed, after days of trying and getting “error” messages!

Seriously, so many millenials/zoomers need to get out of their heads(I include myself here)

Wow... You are really overthinking things
As Bill Hicks put in the mouth of someone he met in some redneck joint that had a similar attitude as your comment:
"Folks, we got ourselves a thinker here!"
